The Hare and the Tortoise

Once, a very fast Hare made fun of a slow Tortoise. The Hare laughed at how slowly the Tortoise moved.“You are so slow!” said the Hare.
“I am much faster than you. I could win any race against you!” The Tortoise said, “Maybe, but I am steady. I will keep going. I bet I can beat you in a race.”
The Hare laughed even more. “You? Beat me? That is very funny!” “We will see,” said the Tortoise. “Let’s have a race.” So, they started the race. The Hare ran very fast. He was soon far ahead of the Tortoise. The Tortoise just kept walking, slowly but surely.
The Hare got tired. “I have plenty of time,” he thought. “The Tortoise is very slow. I will take a rest.” So, the Hare lay down under a tree and fell asleep.
The Tortoise kept walking. He did not stop. He walked and walked. The Hare woke up. He looked around. He saw the Tortoise. The Tortoise was near the finish line!
The Hare ran as fast as he could. But it was too late. The Tortoise crossed the finish line first. The Hare was very surprised. He had been so sure he would win. But the Tortoise had won because he did not give up.
The Tortoise was tired but happy. He had shown that being slow and steady is better than being fast but careless.
