The Little Mermaid
Ariel’s Fascination
Far beneath the sea lived a young mermaid princess named Ariel. The youngest daughter of the sea king, she was unlike her sisters in her adventurous and spirited nature. Fascinated by the world above the waves, Ariel often swam near the surface, her bright eyes widening with curiosity at the sight of sailing ships and distant shores.
One day, a magnificent ship carrying a handsome prince sailed by. Ariel, hidden beneath the waves, fell in love with him instantly. The prince’s laughter and the lively music from the ship filled her heart with a longing she had never known. However, when a storm struck, tossing the ship violently, Ariel watched in horror as the prince was thrown overboard. Driven by a love stronger than any fear, she saved him from drowning. Ariel pulled him to the shore and sang softly to him until help arrived.
The Deal with Ursula
Desperate to be with him and explore the human world, Ariel made a deal with the sea witch Ursula. Ursula, a cunning and malevolent creature who dwelled in a dark, twisted corner of the ocean, demanded a potion that would give Ariel human legs in exchange for her beautiful voice. This voice had charmed the prince, but Ursula had a catch: if Ariel didn’t receive a kiss of true love from the prince within three days, she would turn back into a mermaid and belong to Ursula, bound to her service for eternity.
Life as a Human
Ariel bravely drank the potion, enduring excruciating pain as her tail transformed into legs. She washed ashore, and though the prince couldn’t place her, he was captivated by her ethereal beauty and graceful movements. He brought her to his castle, and she tried everything to communicate her feelings, dancing and expressing herself with all the emotion she could muster. However, he was already betrothed to another princess from a neighbouring kingdom, and though he enjoyed her company, he saw her only as a charming companion. On the third day, the prince was about to marry his intended bride, the ceremony to take place on a grand ship decked with flowers and banners.
Ariel’s Sacrifice
Ariel’s sisters, desperate to save her, attempted to help by attacking the wedding ship, causing chaos and confusion. However, it was too late. The prince, caught up in the festivities, remained oblivious to Ariel’s plight. Heartbroken, Ariel realised her chance was slipping away. As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the water, she felt herself changing. Her legs merged back into a tail. Resigned to her fate, she walked off the ship and plunged into the waves, returning to the sea and Ursula’s grasp. Her dreams of a life with the prince were shattered.
