A story to read together

## Cinderella

Take your time. Let the story unfold.

Once upon a time, a kind young woman named Cinderella lived with her stepmother
and two stepsisters. They gave her many chores and often left her out of their plans.
Cinderella worked hard, but she still found small ways to be kind—to the animals
in the garden, to the neighbours, and to herself. She hoped that one day life might
open a new door.

Chapter one

### An invitation to the palace

One day, a royal invitation arrived. The prince was holding a grand ball, and young
people from across the kingdom were welcome. Cinderella wanted to go, too. Her stepmother
gave her extra work and said she could go only after it was finished. Even when
Cinderella completed every task, they left without her.

Cinderella felt sad. She sat in the garden and let herself cry. A gentle voice answered,“
You deserve a chance to enjoy the evening.” Her fairy godmother appeared, ready
to help.

Chapter two

### A little magic, a clear promise

With a wave of her wand, the fairy godmother changed Cinderella’s old clothes into
a beautiful dress. She turned a pumpkin into a carriage and gave Cinderella a pair
of glass slippers.

“Enjoy the ball,” the fairy said, “but please come home before midnight. That is
when the magic will end.” Cinderella thanked her and promised to watch the clock.

Chapter three

### The ball and the clock

At the palace, Cinderella felt welcome. She danced with the prince, met new people
and enjoyed the bright music. The prince was curious about her, and they talked
and laughed together.

Then the clock began to chime. Cinderella remembered her promise and hurried home
before the last stroke of midnight. As she ran, one glass slipper slipped from her
foot on the palace steps.

Chapter four

### The slipper finds its way

The next day, the prince searched for the person who had left the slipper. He visited
homes across the kingdom. Cinderella’s stepsisters tried it, but it did not fit.
Cinderella asked if she might try. The slipper fit her perfectly.

The prince recognised Cinderella from the ball and invited her to the palace. Cinderella
chose to go. Her life changed, and she used her new position to help others who
needed a fair chance.

In time, Cinderella decided what kind of relationship she wanted with her stepfamily.
She could offer forgiveness when she felt ready, while expecting them to treat her
with respect. Cinderella’s hope had helped her imagine a new beginning—and she chose
what that beginning would be.

**Read it together**

Pause at the turning points. Ask what Cinderella hopes for, what the fairy asks
her to remember, and which choices Cinderella makes for herself.

## After the final page

There is no single right answer. Invite young readers to notice, wonder and imagine.

Remember

What did the fairy godmother change to help Cinderella reach the ball?

Think

How does Cinderella keep hope, and what does she do to make choices for herself?

Imagine

If you could add one kind helper to the story, what would that person do?

**Make something:** Design a new invitation to the royal ball. Add a time, a place
and one welcoming message for every guest.
