A story to read together

## The Lion and the Mouse

Take your time. Let the story unfold.

A lion was resting in the shade when a little mouse hurried across his paw. The
lion woke and caught the mouse gently beneath one great paw. The frightened mouse
asked to be let go and promised to help someday.

Chapter one

### A small promise

The lion laughed at the idea that a tiny mouse could help him. Still, he lifted
his paw and let the mouse go. The mouse thanked him and hurried home.

Chapter two

### A call for help

The mouse heard the lion’s roar and followed the sound. It found the lion trapped
and quickly began gnawing at one of the ropes.

Chapter three

### The net opens

At last, the rope broke enough for the lion to push free. He thanked the mouse and
admitted that help can come from an unexpected friend.

Chapter four

### Kindness returned

The lion and mouse became friends. They helped one another in different ways, each
using the strengths they had.

Ask learners to retell the story from the mouse’s point of view. This supports empathy
and perspective-taking.

## After the final page

There is no single right answer. Invite young readers to notice, wonder and imagine.

Remember

How does the mouse help the lion later?

Think

Can someone small or young make a big difference?

Imagine

How did the mouse help the lion, and what did the lion learn?

**Make something:** Draw a kindness chain. Show one small helpful act and two ways
it could help others later.
