 3. Lesson 8 of 8

Wow, look how far you have come! You can count objects, write numbers, understand
tens and ones, count to 100, skip count and compare. Today you will review everything
by playing **number games**. Grab a grown-up or a friend and let’s play!

## What you have learned

  | Skill | Example |
   | Counting objects | touch each one: 1, 2, 3 |
 | Writing numerals | 0, 7, 10 |
 | Teen numbers | 14 is ten and four more |
 | Tens and ones | 36 is 3 tens and 6 ones |
 | Counting to 100 | …98, 99, 100 |
 | Skip counting | 5, 10, 15, 20 |
 | Comparing | 72 is more than 27 |

## Five games to play

### 1. Number hunt

Look for numbers around your home or street: on doors, clocks, buses and packets.
Read each number you find. Can you find a number bigger than 50?

### 2. Guess my number

One player thinks of a number up to 20. The other player guesses. Answer with “more”
or “less” until they find it.

### 3. Snack count

Pour some raisins or crackers. Estimate (make a smart guess) how many there are.
Then count them in groups of ten. How close was your guess?

### 4. Skip-count jumps

Jump and count by 2s, 5s or 10s. Can you skip count by 10s to 100 in ten big jumps?

### 5. Build a number

Use blocks to build a number with tens towers and ones. Your partner says a number,
like 43, and you build 4 towers and 3 single blocks.

## Keep practising every day

Numbers are everywhere. Count the stairs as you climb. Count the plates as you set
the table. Count the cars that go by. A little bit of counting every day makes you
a strong mathematician.

### Example

Every morning, Priya counts the steps from her door to the gate. Yesterday it was
23 steps. Today she took bigger steps and counted only 19. “That’s fewer steps,”
she said proudly.

## Key takeaways

 * You can count, write and compare numbers to 100.
 * Tens and ones help you understand big numbers.
 * Skip counting saves time.
 * Playing number games every day builds strong maths skills.

## Practice

Play **Build a number** three times. Build **25, 60** and **91** with blocks or
sticks and dots. Then say which of the three numbers is the most.

Answers: 25 is 2 tens and 5 ones, 60 is 6 tens and 0 ones, 91 is 9 tens and 1 one.
The most is 91.
