Welcome to Multiplication and Division Mastery, a free course that makes multiplication for kids clear, visual and fun. In ten lessons, learners discover what multiplication really means, build every times table from 2 to 10 with clever strategies, and then use that knowledge to divide, find remainders and solve word problems.

Many children try to memorise times tables as a long list of facts. This course takes a different approach: first we understand why the facts work, using equal groups and arrays, and then we learn shortcuts that turn hard facts into easy ones. Understanding first makes the facts stick, and it makes division much easier too.

What you will learn

  • Explain multiplication as equal groups and arrays
  • Use the order property to halve the number of facts to learn
  • Learn the 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 times tables with strategies
  • Multiply by 0, 1, 10 and 100
  • Divide by sharing and by grouping, and use fact families
  • Solve division problems with remainders and two-step word problems

Who this course is for

This course is for students in Grades 3 and 4 (about ages 8 to 10), and for older students who want to fill gaps in their times tables. Learners should be comfortable adding and counting by 2s, 5s and 10s.

A note for parents and teachers

Encourage learners to draw pictures, use counters or make arrays with buttons or blocks before moving to numbers alone. Short daily practice of five to ten minutes works far better than long drills. Celebrate strategies, not just speed: a child who works out 7 × 8 by doubling 7 × 4 understands more than one who has simply memorised it. Each lesson ends with practice questions and answers so learners can check their own work.

How the course works

There are ten lessons of about ten minutes each. The final lesson is a word-problem challenge that brings every skill together.
