చదువును ఎప్పుడూ పుస్తకాలకే పరిమితం చేయకూడదు, దాన్ని ఒక ఆహ్లాదకరమైన ఆటలా మలచుకోవాలి! పాత రోజుల్లో మనం ఆడుకున్న "పదాల అంత్యాక్షరి", అమ్మమ్మలు చెప్పే "పొడుపు కథలు" (Riddles) అన్నీ భాషను పెంచే ఆటలే.

ఇప్పుడు మనం ఆధునిక పద్ధతుల్లో కూడా ఇలాంటి ఆటలను ఆడుకోవచ్చు. పద వినోదం (Crossword puzzles), అక్షరాలను కలిపి పదాలు చేయడం, బొమ్మలను చూసి పేర్లు చెప్పడం లాంటి ఆటలు నేర్చుకోవడాన్ని సరదాగా మారుస్తాయి. ఉదాహరణకు, ఒక పెద్ద పదం నుండి చిన్న పదాలను వెతకడం (ఉదా: 'ఆకాశవాణి' నుండి ఆకాశం, వాణి, కాశీ లాంటివి). ఇలాంటి ఆటలు ఆడుతూ ఉంటే తెలియకుండానే మీ మెదడులో తెలుగు పదాలు బలంగా ముద్రపడిపోతాయి.

తెలుగు సాహిత్యం కథలకి పెట్టింది పేరు. చందమామ కథలు, బాలమిత్ర, పంచతంత్రం, తెనాలి రామకృష్ణుడి చమత్కారాలు, పేదరాసి పెద్దమ్మ కథలు.. ఇవన్నీ మన సంస్కృతికి అద్దం పట్టేవే. ముందుగా చిన్న చిన్న కథలు చదవడం అలవాటు చేసుకోండి. అందులోని పాత్రలు, వారు మాట్లాడే విధానం, అక్కడి వాతావరణం మీ కళ్ళ ముందు మెదులుతాయి.

చదవడం అలవాటయ్యాక, మీ ఊహాశక్తికి అక్షర రూపం ఇవ్వండి! ఒక పండుగ రోజు ఇంట్లో చేసిన ఆవకాయ ఘుమఘుమల గురించో, సంక్రాంతికి ఊరెళ్ళినప్పటి ముచ్చట్ల గురించో, లేదా మీకు నచ్చిన ఒక సినిమా గురించో చిన్న కథలు లేదా వ్యాసాలు రాయండి. తప్పులు పోతాయేమో అని భయపడకండి. భావం ముఖ్యం, ఆ తర్వాతే భాష! మీ సొంత కథలు రాస్తున్నప్పుడు మీరు పొందే ఆనందం వెలకట్టలేనిది.

Learn Telugu Letters and the Alphabet

Telugu letters are beautifully rounded, like tiny pearls. Telugu is called an “ajanta” language because many words end with a vowel sound. That is one reason spoken Telugu can sound so melodious and musical.

Practise Guninthalu, Sounds and Words

Consonants come fully alive when vowels join them. That is gunintham! For example, when the consonant 'క్' joins the vowel 'ఆ', it becomes 'కా'—the first sound in కాకి (crow). Learning guninthalu can be as simple and logical as learning a maths pattern.

Begin by saying the gunintham sounds clearly. Notice the difference between holding long vowels (ఆ, ఈ, ఊ) and saying short ones (అ, ఇ, ఉ). Then start reading and writing everyday words such as 'అమ్మ', 'నాన్న', 'తాత' and 'చెట్టు'. Find out the Telugu names of things around you; sounds and words will soon become familiar.

Learn Through Telugu Learning Games

Learning should never be limited to books; it can become a joyful game! Traditional word-chain games and the riddles shared by grandparents have always helped us grow our language skills.

Today we can play in new ways too. Crosswords, joining letters to make words, and naming things from pictures make learning fun. You can also look for smaller words inside a longer word—for example, words such as 'ఆకాశం', 'వాణి' and 'కాశీ' from 'ఆకాశవాణి'. As you play, Telugu words begin to stay with you naturally.

Grow Your Telugu Vocabulary and Grammar

If words are the bricks of a language, grammar is the mortar that arranges them beautifully and firmly. Learn one new word every day to grow your vocabulary. Synonyms make your language richer—for example, use రవి, భాస్కరుడు or దినకరుడు as well as సూర్యుడు for the sun.

There is no need to be afraid of grammar topics such as sandhi and samasam. Sandhi joins two words beautifully.

With small examples like this, grammar can feel like a fascinating science. Use the proverbs and sayings your grandparents use in conversation; they can make your Telugu sound natural and rooted in the warmth of our villages.

Telugu literature is famous for its stories. Chandamama, Balamitra, the Panchatantra, Tenali Ramakrishna’s witty tales and Pedarasi Peddamma stories all reflect our culture. Begin by making a habit of reading short stories. Their characters, conversations and settings will come alive in your imagination.

Once you enjoy reading, give your imagination a written form! Write a short story or essay about the aroma of avakaya made at home for a festival, a Sankranti visit to your hometown, or a film you love. Do not worry about making mistakes. The idea comes first; the language comes next! The joy of writing your own stories is priceless.
