APTET 2026 Paper 1A: learning theories of Thorndike, Pavlov, Skinner, Köhler and Bandura, constructivism, memory, special needs and inclusive education.

  • 9 lessons
  • Intermediate
  • 2h 45m
  • Updated

This course covers the “Understanding Learning” and inclusive education units of APTET Child Development and Pedagogy. It explains APTET learning theories in simple language with clear tables and classroom examples: what learning is, learning curves, factors that influence learning, the theories of Thorndike, Pavlov, Skinner, Köhler, Bandura and Bruner, constructivism and the 5E model, transfer of learning, memory and forgetting, children with special needs, and how to build an inclusive classroom.

Section A of APTET 2026 Paper I(A) carries 30 of the paper’s 150 marks. Learning theories are a favourite area for questions because the names, experiments and terms are easy to confuse: negative reinforcement and punishment, proactive and retroactive interference, integration and inclusion. Each lesson ends with an “Exam focus” box that tackles these confusions directly.

What you will learn

  • Explain the meaning, nature and types of learning, and read learning curves and plateaus
  • Describe how home, school, maturation, emotions, motivation, interests, aptitude and attitude affect learning
  • Compare the experiments, laws and classroom uses of Thorndike, Pavlov, Skinner, Köhler, Bandura and Bruner
  • Apply constructivism, reciprocal teaching, collaborative learning and the 5E method
  • Explain types and theories of transfer, stages of memory and causes of forgetting
  • Identify learning disabilities, plan an IEP, differentiate teaching and create an inclusive classroom
