Welcome to Counting and Numbers to 100! This free course makes counting to 100 for kids simple and fun. In eight short lessons, children learn to count real objects, write numbers, understand tens and ones, skip count, and compare numbers using words like more and less.

Counting is the foundation of all maths. When children truly understand what numbers mean, adding, subtracting and problem solving become much easier later. Every lesson uses everyday things like toys, snacks and steps, so numbers feel real and friendly.

What you will learn

  • Count objects one by one up to 20 and beyond
  • Read and write the numbers 0 to 20
  • Understand teen numbers and tens and ones
  • Count to 100 by ones and by tens
  • Skip count by 2s, 5s and 10s
  • Compare numbers using more, less and equal

Who this course is for

This course is for children in Kindergarten and Grade 1 (about ages 5 to 7). It also works well as a review for older children who are not yet confident with numbers to 100.

A note for parents and teachers

Children learn numbers best by touching and moving things. Keep a small box of counters handy, such as buttons, blocks, pasta shapes or coins. Read each lesson aloud, then do the activities together. Short daily practice of five to ten minutes is better than one long session. If your child finds a lesson tricky, simply repeat it another day with different objects. Mistakes are a normal part of learning.

What you need

Small objects to count, paper and pencils, and a hundred chart (you can draw one or print one). The last lesson is a set of number games to play together.
