Study Skills and Time Management is a free course that teaches students how to learn more effectively, not just work harder. This study skills for students course covers how learning works, planning with calendars and to-do lists, beating procrastination, taking useful notes, studying with active recall and spaced practice, reading textbooks, preparing for tests, and protecting focus and sleep.
Many students were never directly taught how to study. They reread notes, highlight whole pages or cram the night before, and then feel frustrated when the results do not match the effort. This course focuses on study methods with strong research support, explained in plain language with realistic examples from middle school life. Each lesson ends with a short activity that helps students build their own study system step by step.
What you will learn
- Understand how memory works and why mistakes help learning
- Plan your week with a calendar and a prioritised to-do list
- Break big projects into small steps and beat procrastination
- Take clear notes using Cornell, outline and mind map methods
- Study with active recall, spaced practice and mixed practice
- Prepare for tests calmly and build a personal study plan
Who this course is for
This course is for students in Grades 6 to 8 (about ages 11 to 14), especially those moving into a busier timetable with more homework and tests. Older students will find it useful too.
A note for parents and teachers
Students build study habits gradually. Encourage them to try one new technique at a time and notice what helps. Praise effort and smart strategies rather than just grades. Some techniques, such as self-testing, can feel harder than rereading, which is exactly why they work; reassure students that a bit of struggle is a sign of learning. If a student experiences ongoing difficulty with reading, attention or anxiety, speak with their school, as extra support may help.
How the course works
There are eight lessons of about fifteen minutes each. The final lesson brings everything together into a personal weekly study plan.
