THE CURIOSI · EXPLORE & TRY
How does each organism get food?
Explore the model, then test your understanding. Select each numbered stop to discover its role.
1Grass
Grass is a producer that uses light energy to make sugars.
2Rabbit
A rabbit gets energy by eating plant material: it is a consumer.
3Hawk
A hawk gets energy by eating animals: it is a consumer.
4Fungi
Many fungi break down dead material; they do not make food by photosynthesis.
Simplified model: real ecosystems have more connections. Food-chain arrows show energy moving from food to eater; nutrient-cycle arrows describe material transfer.

Read the answer explanations
- Grass makes food by photosynthesis.
- Omnivores eat both plant and animal foods; diets depend on species and circumstances.
