Once upon a time, a woman who craved rapunzel flowers sent her husband to steal some from a neighbouring witch’s garden. When the witch caught him, she demanded their firstborn child as payment. Reluctantly, they agreed.
When the baby, Rapunzel, was born, the witch took her and locked her away in a tall tower with no doors or stairs, only a window at the top. Rapunzel grew into a beautiful young woman with long, golden hair. Whenever the witch visited, she stood at the tower’s bottom and called, “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair.” Rapunzel would let down her hair for the witch to climb.
One day, a prince heard Rapunzel singing from the tower. Enchanted by her voice, he searched for the tower and found it. He watched as the witch called for Rapunzel’s hair and learned how to climb up. When the witch left, the prince called out to Rapunzel, and she let down her hair. He climbed up, and they fell in love.
The prince visited Rapunzel secretly, bringing her silk threads to weave a ladder. However, Rapunzel accidentally revealed the prince’s visits to the witch. Furious, the witch cut off Rapunzel’s hair and banished her to a faraway desert.
When the prince came to the tower, the witch tricked him by lowering Rapunzel’s severed hair. When the prince discovered the deception, he fell from the tower, thorns blinding him. He wandered the land in despair until he heard Rapunzel’s voice again.
Eventually, the prince found Rapunzel in the desert, and when they embraced, her tears restored his sight. He took Rapunzel and their twin children back to his kingdom, where they lived happily ever after.
