A farmer and his wife once owned a very special goose. Every single day, the goose laid a golden egg. At first, the couple felt incredibly lucky and enjoyed the steady wealth the goose brought them.
But after some time, they grew impatient. One golden egg a day no longer seemed enough. They started thinking, “If the goose lays golden eggs, maybe it must be full of gold inside. Why wait for one egg a day when we could have all the gold right now?”
Blinded by greed, the farmer and his wife decided to kill the goose and take all the treasure at once.
So they cut the goose open — but to their shock, there was no gold inside at all. It was just an ordinary goose.
In the end, they lost everything. Not only did they fail to find any hidden treasure, but they also lost the golden egg the goose had been giving them every day.
Moral of the story: Greed can make people lose even what they already have.
