How to make your ABC book
You can make one big book or start with just a few letters. Follow these steps:
- Fold some paper sheets in half to make pages.
- On each page, write a big letter and a small letter, like Aa.
- Think of a word that starts with that letter’s sound.
- Draw a picture of it.
- Write the word under the picture. A grown-up can help.
- Keep the pages in ABC order, from A to Z.
Example page
Page Dd: a drawing of a dog. Under it: d is for dog. You could also add duck or drum!
Ideas for tricky letters
Some letters are harder to find words for. Here are some ideas:
- Qq: queen, quilt
- Xx: x-ray, or a word that ends with x, like box or fox
- Yy: yo-yo, yellow
- Zz: zebra, zoo
Make it yours
Use your favourite things! If you love animals, make an animal ABC book. If you love food, make a food ABC book. There is no wrong way to be creative.
